    The Colares PDO production area comprises the parishes of Colares, São Martinho and São João das Lampas in the municipality of Sintra.
    Climate
    The Colares PDO area has a marked Atlantic maritime influence; its proximity to the ocean and maritime winds contributes to a temperate climate that remains humid in summer.
    Soils
    Colares PDO vineyards are planted either on psammitic regosols of sand over consolidated material, traditionally called chão de areia, or on brown calcareous soils over marl or related material, traditionally called chão rijo.
