About WhatDrink

WhatDrink helps you decide what to drink — and find somewhere to enjoy it. We organise information about drinks and the places that serve them, so you can move from curiosity to a good choice.

What you can do here

WhatDrink brings two things together in one place: knowledge about drinks, and discovery of venues that serve them. Depending on what you're after, you can:

  • Explore drink knowledge — recipes, styles, ingredients, flavours, food pairings, occasions and nutrition estimates for cocktails, wines, beers, spirits, mocktails and more.
  • Discover venues — bars, wineries, breweries, distilleries and restaurants, browsable by drink category and location.
  • Compare and choose — see how drinks relate to one another, what pairs with what, and which options fit an occasion or dietary preference.

Two ways to explore: knowledge and venues

WhatDrink deliberately keeps two kinds of pages distinct, because they answer different questions.

  • Drink knowledge lives under /drink-guides/… — for example cocktail recipes and styles. These pages help you understand and choose a drink.
  • Venue discovery lives at the top level — for example places serving cocktails. These pages help you find somewhere to drink it.

The two are complementary, not duplicates: a recipe page may point you to venues, and a venue-discovery page may point you back to the recipes and styles behind a drink.

How our data is governed

WhatDrink figures — calories, sugar, ABV, standard drinks and drink relationships — are estimates produced from structured recipe and reference data, and are shown only when they pass our data-quality checks. They are for comparison and discovery, not for medical, dietary or allergy decisions. For the detail of how the data is sourced, calculated and reviewed, see the pages below.
